The Royal Dogs You Need To Know!

With less than a week to go until the eagerly awaited royal wedding, we just can’t contain our excitement. Prince Harry weds his beautiful bride to be Meghan Markel this Saturday, May 19th. In celebration of this, we wanted to pay homage to all of the past and present canine Prince and Princesses that have brought joy to their Royal families. From Queen Elizabeth’s famous Corgis to Prince Carl Phillip of Sweden’s adopted dog Siri, we give you the royal dogs you need to know.

When we think of the Queen her Corgis soon pop to mind. having being gifted her first Corgi ‘Susan’ at the age of 16 the Queen has since made this wonderful breed a prominent symbol of the royal family.  

Sadly in April 2018 the Queen’s last remaining Corgi ‘Willow’ had to be put down. 

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway & Labradoodle Muffins

Muffins is described by the Norwegian royal family as a very ‘curious and mischievous pup’. On a family ski trip, the then three-year-old doodle managed to escape from the family’s holiday home, but was later found roaming around the ski slopes and was returned unharmed to the Royals. 

Prince & Princess of Japan with their two Shiba's Pipi & Mari

Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako of Japan were looking for a companion for their daughter Princess Aiko and fell in love with their first Shiba Inu Mari. They adored their four-legged friend so much that they couldn't resist in getting him a companion also. Pipi joined the Royal household in 2005 and they became a happy royal family of 5. 

 

 

Duke & Duchess of Cambridge & their Cocker Spaniel Lupo

After Prince William and Kate married in April 2011, Kate's brother James gifted the couple with their adorable Cocker Spaniel Lupo. Being dog lovers the couple were over the moon with their gift. Lupo is said to be an energetic pup, loving companion to their son Prince George and an avid ice-cream lover.  

 

Prince Carl Phillip of Sweden & Terrier Siri

In May 2014 Prince Carl Phillip and his wife Princess Sofia adopted female Border Terrier Siri. When looking for a dog adoption was the only option as they wanted to give a less fortunate pooch a loving home. Siri slotted into her new royal lifestyle with ease and soon became the number one princess of the castle.    

 

Camilla Duchess of Cornwall & Jack Russel Beth

The Duchess of Cornwall and wife of Prince Charles is an avid campaigner for animal welfare. In February 2017 Camilla was named as the Royal Patron of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. The home holds a special place in her heart as its where she and Charles got their two rescued Jack Russel pups Beth and Bluebell.
